About Us
Word and Spirit Ministries is the evangelisation ministry set up by Derek Williams. He is a lifelong Catholic who struggled in his late teens and early twenties with his Catholic faith until he experienced the Charismatic 'Baptism of the Holy Spirit' at a Catholic Charismatic Prayer meeting in February 1990. That was at Holy Souls prayer group in Acocks Green, Birmingham. A group that is still flourishing. Following this he gave up his sporting activities and concentrated his time and energy on his faith, attending daily Mass, praying the Rosary, praying in tongues, reading the bible and lives of the Saints, and eventually reading the Catechism when the new one was released. He went on pilgrimage to various places, (Medugorje, Lourdes, Fatima and Walsingham). His faith was challenged quite strongly by Pentecostal friends while he was training in the art of evangelisation, but after researching he came to the realisation that the Catholic Truth truly was the full truth. Since then he has been fully committed as a Catholic while being very open and friendly with people of all denominations. As a testimony of this one of his closest friends is an Anglican Vicar!
The main purpose of Word and Spirit Ministries is to teach Catholics the Word of God in a way that makes it fun, challenging, and fully alive. After attending the bible seminars advertised on other pages the general testimony is that the bible has come alive and participants are reading the bible regularly with greater clarity. It also affirms Catholics in their faith but does not alienate non Catholics.
Derek is married to Lynn and they have four children, Catherine, Michael, Hannah and Samuel. They have consecrated themselves and their family to Jesus through Mary using the method prescribed by St Louis De Montfort. It is our desire to spread this devotion as St Louis prophesied that Our Lady would raise up an army of saints using this method.
